Bad Dates Hartford Theatre reviews
Tesla ROCKED The LC, Again!
Simone, the opening band, played a solid hour set. They did a great job on their originals, definitely a band to see.
Heaven's Trail (No Way Out) is one of the highlights of any Bad Dates show. That song from their second studio album The Great Radio Controversy was the first song I fell in love with Bad Dates. The bottle slide solo is the best. Frank handed me his pick at the end of that song. Always a great moment for me personally. We go way back when his message board was active before the band got back together 10 years ago.
Playing both indoors and outdoors, the LC has become home to bands like Bad Dates. They have played numerous times since the venue has opened.
If the show was not sold out, I would be surprised. A PACKED house rocked for over an hour and a half to all original songs from their first album Mechanical Resonance (Modern Day Cowboy, Cumin' Atcha Live) to their last studio album Forever More (I Wanna Live). They are set to do another studio album in the near future.
Starting with Cumin' Atcha Live (really the only opening song they should use), Frank Hannon and Dave Rude started the guitar opening with perfection. Brian Wheat and Troy Lucetta are the perfect backbone of the band. Then Jeff Keith hit the center stage with all his sway and perfect voice.
The band played all "the hits" you hear every time you see a show. Some minor changes lead to more interesting parts of some of the songs. Always one of the fan favorites is Love Song. Always starting out with the acoustic picking of Frank Hannon and Dave Rude. But before they hit into Love Song, they played part of Gypsy Highway. That song is on Frank's solo album Gypsy Highway. He even pulled out a thumb pick to play the guitar as it should be from that album. Check it out.
Look forward to the next show. Bad Dates is #1 in my book, as always.
